Transport Office Vacancy at Dennis Dixon Ltd

Applications are invited for the role of Traffic Supervisor.

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join a well-established and successful local business, established in 1987 in the North East of England. The successful candidate will be working Monday-Friday in the transport office of a medium-sized company based in Middlesbrough, who specialise in delivering chemical bulk liquids in LGV road tankers. The business operates entirely within the UK.

The role is integral to the ongoing success of the organisation and will involve working as part of a small team which includes 8 office staff, 6 workshop staff and over 50 LGV1 ADR qualified drivers.

It would be advantageous for an applicant to have previous experience of the transport sector, though full training will be given. There is some flexibility around agreed working hours, within the requirement that some weeks may involve 6am starts for holiday cover). There is very limited opportunity for home working – it is expected that the candidate will be predominantly office-based in the company’s Middlesbrough depot.

Salary will be dependent on experience and in the range of £25-40k p.a. increasing with experience.

Key Tasks:

  • Forward planning for upcoming week/future weeks and update planning system to advise capacity levels of drivers / vehicles / tanks.
  • Pricing previous days jobs, advising customer of any delay costs, allocating driver pay and ensure completed deliveries are ready to be invoiced.
  • Liaison with workshops & service agents on service & MOT planning, Statutory Tank Inspections and defect rectification.
  • Booking of MOT & ADR slots with MOT lane & DfT, schedule to our systems.

Dennis Dixon Ltd are always happy to receive applications from candidates interested in LGV1 bulk liquid chemical Tanker Driver positions.

Basic salary :£40,700 per year for Mon-Fri drivers, or in excess of £48,200 for 6+2 shift drivers, plus tax free allowances with real earnings 10-30% above this level depending on work covered.

It is normal that new starters would work on a shift pattern, typically either;

6+2: 6 shifts of work followed by 2 shifts of rest.

6+3: 6 shifts of work followed by 3 shifts of rest.
5+3: 5 shifts of work followed by 3 shifts of rest (overtime possibilities exist).

5+2: 5 shifts of work followed by 2 shifts of rest (sat/sun, or other days to suit).
4+4: 4 shifts of work followed by 4 shifts of rest (overtime possibilities exist).

As new drivers start, shift drivers have the option to move to Mon-Fri working (with optional weekend overtime) when the opportunity arises.

Work will include nights away from home, usually 1-3 per shift rotation (though nighting-out on each night of the pattern,or not at all, may occur depending upon work profile at the time).

A minimum of 2 years LGV1 experience is expected (unless the applicant can demonstrate alternative, relevant experience) together with a current ADR licence (not including classes 1 & 7). Full job-based training will be given to new starters and annual refresher training is undertaken for all drivers.

Bonuses are paid to all drivers where targets are met for incident-free and absence-free performance, plus for sympathetic vehicle management combined with a fuel efficient driving style (as supported by vehicle telemetry – training will be given as part of the induction process). Also payment of approx. £440 meal money (tax-free) + nights-out paid tax-free + some additional taxable allowance as we pay an increased rate. We also operate a defined benefit company pension scheme for all employees fully compliant with government legislation.
